Micro-goals

Students come to class for varying reasons. Not everyone has the goal of becoming a professional bellydancer. In fact, it has been my experiences that most students take bellydance class for the fun of it, the fitness benefits and for the camaraderie, recreation & social experience of bellydancing. I encourage my students to become aware of what there general goals are in taking bellydance and I bring to their attention that their goals may shift and change as their involvement with bellydance grows. An inspiring way to keep overall motivation levels fresh in a class full of mixed & changing ambitions is to have each student set a micro goal or personal objective for each class. This provides students with a sense of purposeful training and strengthens the focus of the student. Simply have each student bring one element of their dancing into personal focus while moving through the lessons provided for the days class. For instance, one student may have a micro goal of working on fluidity of movement; another perhaps is concentrating on isolations or coordination as another student refines posture and so on. Micro goals ad depth, bring personal meaning to the training process and accelerates development.
